EcoMotion 2021 - Smart Mobility Industry Trends To Watch
On May 18-20, Focus Capital Group participated in EcoMotion Week 2021, the annual Smart Mobility gathering, chaired by FCG CEO Meir Arnon.
Read Meir’s industry analysis and take home insights from the week’s speaker panels and events.
EcoMotion 2021 was an impressive gathering of the world’s leading companies pioneering in the Smart Mobility field. Hundreds of Startups, Investors, Industry Leaders, Policy Makers and more attended virtually & exhibited live on the EcoMotion virtual platform.
Personally, it was a pleasure to chair EcoMotion Week once again, and share insights with Smart Mobility leaders and friends from across the globe. It was a treat to see so many friendly and returning faces this year among the event’s participants! Several of our speakers highlighted key trends that are impacting and shaping the future of transportation.
Below are some of the key trends discussed in this year’s EcoMotion speaker panels and fireside chats.
Key Smart Mobility trends to watch in 2021-2022:
Faster Electrification - Widespread electrification of cars is happening much faster than was anticipated a couple of years ago. The cost of producing electric cars has gone down dramatically, and will continue to do so.
Trends of Both Globalization and Localization - R&D and technology cooperation are getting more global, while supply chain complexities are causing production and manufacturing to become more local.
Increased Cooperation Among Car Manufacturers - We’re seeing more cooperation among car manufacturers, especially around ADAS, cyber, and more.
A Continuous Chip Shortage - The chip shortage will continue into Q1 2022, resulting in a slowdown in car manufacturing throughput, leading to price increases on new and secondhand cars.
Development of the Software-Defined Vehicle - The software-defined vehicle was only in preliminary concept a year ago, but has now become a real industry focus. At FCG, we’re excited to be investing in this technology via EV-X, a plug-and-play automotive platform for seamless vertical integration.
Flying Cars Are Real - Flying cars are not just a futuristic dream anymore, with companies like AeroMobil making them part of our new transportation reality.
LiDAR vs Radar Development - While it’s still open in regards to who will take the industry lead, LiDAR is becoming more and more important (as seen with LeddarTech’s versatile auto and mobility LiDAR platform), alongside a lot of new developments with radar.
I’m very proud of what we have achieved with EcoMotion to date, and very excited for what we will be achieving tomorrow.
Meir Arnon, Chairman and CEO, Focus Capital Group
